And The She Found Me

And then she found me Helen Hunts directorial debut is a movie about how things get more complicated as you grow older. April's(Helen Hunt) husband leaves her and her adoptive mother dies within the space of two days. The following day she meets two men. One the bumbling English gentleman(Colin Firth) father of one of her students and the other the assitant of a televison presenter who claims to be her birth mother(Bette MIdler).
The movie is about her relationship with these two people and her confusion in reaaltion to both of them. There is a human quality to this movie that Helen Hunt is very adept at getting across. Yes Colin Firth and Bette Midler are type cast but their type works in this movie. They are aposing forces to the meek confusion of Alice who is stumbling through her middle years holding on to her one certainty that she wants to have a child of her own.
There is some blankness to Colin Firths performance in this movie. I woudl conisder myself a fan in general having fallen in love with his performace in the girl with the peral earning but he did let the movie down a bit here. I would go so far to say as his performace is the only piece of grit in this gem of a movie and believe me that is hard for me to say.
otherwise the performace and complelling as is the movie. It is slow paced but you care about the character and will find yourself scream,
