Doubt

Doubt[/I is one of those movies where the name of the movie is throwm around a lot during just in case you forget what film you bought tickets for. In this case though it really made me think. Think things like I Doubt this plot is going anywhere, I Doubt this character they have been building up will have any significance and I Doubt that I will get my money back on the way out. It turns out that I was right about all these things.
It is one of those movies also with Oscar buzz all over it but people need to realise that does not make it a good movie. It makes it an slightly arty and a bit topical but not really that enjoyable.
Now having said that I am going to back track because, though I thought the movie about a over baring head nun who has suspicions about a priest working at her school left a lot to be desired, the acting was faultless. Meryl Streep was excellant as aways in her role as the headteacher of the scholol trying to keep things straight and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Father Flynn, the priest whom the nuns doubt, gives the kind of outstanding proformance that I have come to expect from him since his appearance in [I]Capote. Even Amy Adams was inspired in her role as the young nun Sister James.
There is nothing overly wrong with Doubt it is just that there is not that much right with it easier. It trys too hard to avoid the issue while the movie is about the issue. Everything is talked around and walked around but nothing is given enough attention. It is the little movie that couldn't. If you are determined to see this I would wait for DVD so at least then you can enjoy the acting but go make some tea when you get bored with the storyline.
