Horton hears a Who

Here is a story about an elephant who becomes obsessed with a speck, he believes a tiny person lives on the speck but everybody around him thinks he is crazy. Now here is another story about a Mayor of a town where nothing bad happens who lives on a speck. Put the two stories together and you get Horton hears a Who.
>
> The concept of this children's tale is so intriguing it kind of makes it OK to watch it even though your in your late twenties, early thirties... doesn't matter. It asks that age old question of "Is there something bigger out there?" and in the people of Whoville's case there is. One has to wonder what was going through Dr Seuss' mind most of the time, but whatever it was he has given audiences hours of pleasure thanks to his brand of madness, and Horton hears a Who is no exception.

> Jim Carrey voices Horton the elephant. At first I was a little sceptical after seeing Mike Myers do such a good job with the Cat in the Hat I was almost disappointed when I heard Jim Carrey was in the movie. Jim Carrey can get annoying with his constant facial spasms and phoney accents, so its a nice change to watch him without actually seeing him. In saying that though he is perfect for the role of the over zealous Horton intent on protecting the universe on the speck, he is just crazy and zany enough to compliment Dr Seuss's crazy and zany story. In the end I don't think Mike Myers could have done it better.

> My personal favourite though is definitely Steve Carrel as the Mayor of Whoville, the more I see or hear of him the bigger fan I am becoming (I cant wait to see him as Maxwell Smart). One of my favourite scenes in the movie is when Horton and the Mayor first make contact and Horton reveals that Whoville is a speck on a flower in his hands, they both then realise the magnitude of what is happening - the future of Whoville lies in the palm of Horton's hands.
