Rules of Attraction
is one of those older movies that are not quiet in the classic section but are also not close enough to the new section of the video shop that you would pick it up. I picked it up because I had just finished reading the book(which I would really recommend reading but not if you are easily offended) and I wanted to see how in Gods name they made of movie out of that jumble. Well they didn't. They combed through the material in the book and plucked out a plot line that wasn't really there and tried to make sense of something I don't think was really meant to make sense. The irony of the book is lost in translation and you are left with very little but the star of Dawson's Creek doing various sinister facial expressions as a substitute to acting. American Psycho
but then it isn't really his fault that they couldn't work out what he was doing enough to make the movie. If you are interested I would say read the book and give the movie a miss.

Less Than Zero movie wasn't the novel, but still an interesting movie, especially Robert Downey Jr's performance. The Rules of Attraction is an interesting experiment that doesn't work entirely, but suggests that Roger Avary is a talented director. His Killing Zoe movie is amazing. I'm very curious to see who will turn Lunar Park into a movie. That autobiography-cum-horror novel is exceptional also.
I love the way Easton Ellis weaves characters from one novel into another: Clay from Less Than Zero appears in Rules of Attraction. Sean Bateman in Rules of Attraction has an older brother called Patrick Bateman, the American Psycho. And both Patrick and Sean appear in Glamorama, as does Victor and Jaime, from Rules of Attraction.

I heard they've released The Informers, which is based on another one of Bret Easton Ellis' works, but all I've heard so far are negative reviews.
Bryn - good to know a fellow Bret Easton Ellis fan!

Always, have you read Lunar Park? How good was it?! Very Stephen King, in a good way. In fact Ellis even said in media releases that it was a partial homage to King.
