Shawn of the Fuzz

Dennis, a fat man without a clue, ditches his pregnant girlfriend at the alter only to realise he made a mistake 5 years on. In order to win her affections back he must complete a marathon thus winning her heart and stealing her attention away from a new suitor.
This is the basic plot outline for Run Fatboy Run, the new Simon Pegg flick. So while I wait in anticipation for it to hit Australian shores I thought I would take a moment to comment and praise his other fine works Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead.
Shawn of the Dead is such a clever zombie flick, it the first zombie movie that I have seen which has an ulterior message further to the usual zombie laws i.e. zombies eat brains, zombies will only die if you destroy the brain. The message being that we are all zombies in day to day life anyway, I see the examples everyday sitting on trains, walking up crowded train station stairwells during peak hour with everybody doing the "zombie shuffle". Its funny because its true, well all except the eating brains part and all.
I remember reading somewhere that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have been friends since high school or something like that, and you can really tell by watching them on screen together, its almost like Jay and Silent Bob except without all the dick and weed jokes. The way they can take a simple line and turn it into a classic people will be quoting for years to come is a talent that not many people have...or keep.
As for Hot Fuzz, it is one of the funniest movies ever and you don't find it funny, you are either missing or have seriously damaged your funny bone. I challenge anyone to watch that movie and not crack a smile. I think one of the things that makes both Pegg and Frost so endearing and interesting is how serious they take it, if they didn't act as serious and professional as they do it wouldn't be nearly as funny - See some of the "not so good" Adam Sandler or Jim Carrey movies for examples.
All in all if you haven't seen Hot Fuzz or Shawn of the Dead by now, you shouldn't call yourself a movie fan your just a guest in the wonderful world of film. So in you want to take up residence on the spiritually enlightening couch of movie fandom then go get yourself a copy of each flick and I will save you a seat.
