TV Shows Past & Present Turned into Movies

The ones that didn’t work
Two sayings come to mind: Let dead dogs lie & flogging a dead horse.
I cant shake the feeling that movies originated from TV shows are just Hollywood fat cats trying to make a quick buck. I can just imagine someone sitting around a conference table saying “What have we got?I know lets do a movie of that show that was popular…it’s a sure thing”
Some of these types of movies defiantly worked and in some cases were better than the original shows, but there is a far greater number that didn’t.
Some of the poorer examples like Inspector gadget, Josie and the Pussycats, Dukes of Hazzard and most recently The Simpsons Movie failed to live up to my expectations, although in Josie and the Pussycats case I didn’t really have high expectations.
So why watch something if you know your not going to like it? Curiosity often gets the better of me and everything deserves a chance. Even if it’s mind numbing drivel, sometimes I am surprised and walk away with a whole new outlook on TV show movies. But all to often I am disappointed that someone has taken a perfectly good show and ruined it with over the top plot lines and beyond corny characters.
This trend doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon, whether that is a good or bad thing only time will tell. One day they will have to start coming up with original ideas because everything will have already been done or re-done.
