Walk Hard The Dewey Cox Story

Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story is hands down the funniest movie I have seen this year (the whole twenty days of it). I saw the title a couple of times and always glanced over it and moved on, there was nothing really appealing about it. What changed my mind was seeing part of a preview on TV, and in retrospect I have no idea what it was about the preview that changed my mind because on seeing them now I see that the parts they show in the preview are nowhere near as funny as the film. In fact the parts they show in the previews aren't really funny at all, I guess the powers that be decide that if we show this bit that is not really funny but people like it then they will think the rest of the movie is pure comedy gold...but anyway I digress.
John C Reilly plays Dewey Cox a simple boy from a simple family, until a horribly (funny) bloody accident involving a machete changes his life forever. Dewey grows into a huge success much to the disbelief of his father and wife, and begins to walk the hard road of rock stars cliches.
Its like the writers of this movie have gathered every kind of rock movie cliches and moulded them into one, its classic. My favourite would have to be when Dewey is offered pot for the first time, it still makes me giggle. I may have mentioned this before in a previous post, but I don't really laugh out loud at movies, it takes something really really funny for a movie to make me laugh. With Dewey Cox I was laughing out very loud the majority of the movie.
As I said before the movie is full of rock cliches i.e. groupies, drugs, going to India to chant with some spiritual leader. And it also follows Dewey Cox through his life stopping at ten year intervals, so the first time we meet Dewey is in the forties, next time its the fifties and so on. If your not a big rock history buff or weren't alive during that time, then a lot of this movie may go straight over your head, which is a shame because its funny as hell. But for younger people who don't get the references its still a fun movie to watch and the added visual comedy will make up for it, plus Dewey does grow up and makes it to the modern age. (Jenna Fisher as Darlene is hilarious all I can say is "Smell that sh*t Baby!")
I don't really know what else to say about this movie except if you like music, you like laugh your a*** off funny then watch this movie, now, stop what your doing, turn off the computer and go buy yourself two tickets to Walk Hard the Dewey Cox Story. And don't worry I have the songs stuck in my head for days now, you get used to it ....Walk Hard.......Haa-----rrrrrd down roads.....
