Xmen Origins Wolverine

This is one of those movies that doesn't need a review because, as one of the first of the summers season's blockbuster, everyone will be talking about it. Despite that I still felt the need to put in my two cents on the issue and I have good reasons for it. Empire(Uk movie review mag.) is my bible when I am planning my movie going and as such when I am about to embark on a cinema trip and spend my hard earned cash I flick through the pages and if a movie comes up with less than 3 stars I wait unti it comes out on Dvd. Xmen got two stars. By rights I should have let it go, take the good advice and gone to see another movie. But I didn't. There is a reason for that too, it is a simple one. I am a nerd. Give me any movie with magic and mahem, a splash of superhuman powers and maybe even a vampire or two and my ticket is paid for before I find out the title. It is something that tends to take away the decserning part of my nature but I can't help it. I am a nerd.
so as the nerd I am I went along to Wolverine despite the advice to the contrary and I will tell you something, I loved it. Ok [I]love[/I is probably a bit of a strong word here but I muched away at my popcorn and for two straight hours I was entertained. There were moments sure where I thought
For example there is a scene in which our man Logan finds himself running naked through the countryside and ends up in the barn of a friendly elderly couple. They are no questions as to why this naked man is here they give him food and clothes and laugh when he brakes things. Then when offering to let this complete stranger take the moter bike out for a spin they get killed. The whole thing is about four minutes long so you don't really care that the couple get killed and don't really understand why they let him in their house and don't just shoot him. It is a perfect example of the way the movie goes. It may seem stupid to complain about things being unrealistic in what is esentailly a fantasy movie but there has to be some element of reality for it to work. The people at least should act as people do act. If not what is the point in having a story at all, surely then things can just happen in any sequence with no consiquence.
I have only one more complaint about the movie and then I will settle down and say that I like it in a congenial sort of way. My complaint is Gambit. I will be kind and not mention how like in
wait should that have been that easy?
or hmm that came out of nowhere
but the nerd in me told me to shut up that I was ruining the movie. That would be my advice on this one, don't over think it. It is interesting and, in some places, even well done but there are a good many holes in the exciting blow by blow plot. The holes though are not big ones and they can be passed over but there are also a lot of sequences that are rushed and don't really add to the story except to give you a tiny piece of information that you didn't reall need to have but that the movie producers hope woulld make you think Oh that is how that happened!

The Last Stand
everything they tried to squeeze in would fit and so seemed rushed. I am not going to talk about it but I couldn't not mention Gambit. I have always been a big fan of Xmen and Gambit is my favourite character and I took it when he was never included in the movies before because it is one of those thi ngs that one just has to live with but when they put him and made a mess of it that upset me. Gambit as you may or may not know is a Creole gentlemen who speaks French with a New Orlens twang but in the movie he doesn't. I was saddened by his generic amercianism and his half attempt to sound if he was from the south. His card tricks were cool but it was a once off show and then he became a sidekick. The threw him and to break up a fight in the most stupid of ways and then they discarded him after his short and pointless mission. I ask myself, why did he not just give him directions and get back to what he was doing. Ok I am done I will complain no more. I could go on for many more pages but that would be boring for anyone who is not me. I will keep my further opinions of the charmless juvinile Gambit to myself

I am also very happy that that they included Wolverine's bone claws... these didn't appear in the X-man comics until after Logan had his huge fight with Magneto and got all the Adamantium removed (which I am dying to see in an x-man movie), so I thought that would be overlooked.
I'm also quite sad that they are going to have to ditch the Gambit-Rogue love story (should they ever bring Gambit into X-men proper like they should)... because, well, going by the movies, when Rogue is 20 Gambit will be what, 40-50? Disappointing.
